the not-so-conventional Bollywood --needs appreciation!!!
A number of times i have heard people saying " oh!! these days the new movies , new songs are soooo crap--I have just stopped watching/listening to them"
Though likes and dislikes are relative + opinion based --and it might not be fair to generalize somebody else's as "crap" ( specially without knowing whats the majority's choice) ...........sorry I digress --rather than the philosophy --lets concentrate on the facts.
I agree --i myself find very few of the new films/songs good --or even bearable. ( means i do have like minded friends around!)---But unlike them I don't at least want to close my doors to exploration of new creations --but just appreciating the old stuff and watching or listening is again and again! (in my words--its wearing them down!)
so i agree some of the old stuff was very creative, nice, had quality but at the same time I can't accept that all the new stuff is 'crap' --or just not worth exploring!
yes the signal-to-noise ratio of good stuff in the heap of all the TV junk might be very less --but if u can tune it for the good output by investing some time in the search -------then probably it might have a "butterfly effect" and make ur efforts lot more rewarding!
okay cutting to the chase ( and as promised to a friend) --here is the list of recent Indian movies --which i liked.
What I like in all these movies is the experimentation, the adventure, the new-ness, the un-conventionalism and an artist's desire to do something different--who choses self-satisfaction over box-office success. There are some good mainstream movies too here:-
*) Hazaron khwaishen aisi ( tops my list)
*) Dor
*) Bheja fry
*) socha na tha
*) manorama six feet under
*) Astitva
*) chandni bar
*) hera pheri
*) matrabhoomi (2008)
*) Pinjar
*) chameli
*) Mr and Mrs Iyer
*) Moksha
*) triyacharitra
*) provoked
*) page 3
*) swades
*) tare zameen par
*) Johny gaddar
*) still have to watch --slumdog
My attempt to get interested in exploring and help u increase your "signal to noise" ratio plus support the unconventional --once again!
